From Jack Rosser at the Gtech
This has been a very, very scrappy game so far. Mings should have given Villa the lead from Tielemans' free-kick but it was a poor finish.
The visitors have done well to prevent Brentford benefitting from too many sharp transitions, which is where they are often so devastating.
But both managers, who had a quick chat with their players during a short break in play, will want more.

Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
24. Keane Lewis-Potter does very well on the recovery after Villa had countered brilliantly from a Brentford corner.
Jacob Ramsey looked to have an in around the back until the former Hull man stepped up and in to his new(ish) defensive role.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
20. The Bees continue to exploit the pace of Kevin Schade on the left.
In fact, 55% of Brentford's attacks in the opening 20 minutes of this game have come down their left hand side as opposed to 27% through the middle, and 18% on the right.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
16. Villa should be in front!
It's another free-kick into the box from Tielemans that catches Brentford cold, and Mings arrives all alone to meet it.
A telling connection surely takes it in, but the defender's effort is soft and sees the ball roll trundle through to Flekken.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
11. Villa have fought their way back into this one after those early scares, peppering the hosts with some set-pieces.
Disasi gets himself on the end of one with an acrobatic flick that Flekken blocks, only to discover that the offside flag had been raised.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
7. Some nervy moments at the back for Aston Villa in the early stages.
First, Robin Olsen picks up what looked like a backpass from Axel Disasi, and then John McGinn was caught in possession inside his own area.
Yoane Wissa appeared to have been presented with a certain goal until Youri Tielemans arrived with a heroic last-ditch tackle.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
4. Ollie Watkins is back in West London, and has a fine recent habit of hurting his former club.
The striker has scored five in his last five games against Brentford.
-
Brentford 0-0 Aston Villa
1. Aston Villa - who have failed to win any of their last seven Premier League games after playing in Europe the previous midweek - kick us off in West London.
If they are to put that record right, they will have to do so without the in-form Marco Asensio and influential goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
-
From Jack Rosser at the Gtech
Brentford have struggled at home of late, not winning in their last six, and will hope Villa keep up their sloppy record following their Champions League exertions in midweek.
Not having Asensio and Martinez available at all is a blow for Emery and given the former's absence it is a surprise to see Rashford on the bench.
-
Teatime trouble in TW7
Brentford have lost six of their last seven Premier League games kicking off at 17:30 on a Saturday (W1).
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have lost three of their last four Premier League games in London (D1), having lost just one of their previous 13 visits to the capital (W9 D3).

From Isabelle Barker at the Amex
Marco Silva did not move a muscle after the final whistle, looking out onto the pitch with a steely glare to sum up how much of a sunker punch this was for Fulham.
The result could prove huge in the race for Europe with both teams eyeing a spot.
Meanwhile Brighton fans were fist-pumping and cheering at the home fans with them now level on 46 points with fifth-place Chelsea.
-
From Neil Silver at Selhurst Park
The in-form Eagles will fly to Marbella on Monday for a warm weather training camp breathing a sigh of relief after making hard work of breaching the Premier League's third worst defence.
Palace maybe had one eye on the beach as they put in a below-par performance before Ismaila Sarr struck after 82 minutes with his eighth League goal of the season.
-
Dan King on Liverpool 3-1 Southampton
For all you conspiracy theorists, there was so much to enjoy.
Of course Liverpool's third and match-killing goal came from a penalty awarded after a VAR intervention.
Luis Diaz arguably fouled Yukinari Sugawara before the Japanese defender's arm diverted the ball away from him.
Mo Salah scored again to make it 48,347,274 goal contributions for the season.
That may be an exaggeration. But Liverpool's 16-point lead is a reality.
Southampton showed plenty to suggest that they would have had a fighting chance of staying up if they could produce performances like this on a regular basis.
-
Full time - Liverpool 3-1 Southampton
The Reds fight back to extend their lead at the top to 16 points while Saints remain rock bottom.
-
Full time - Brighton 2-1 Fulham
A late, late victory for the Seagulls, who win four consecutive top-flight games for the first time in 44 years.
-
90+8 - GOAL! Brighton 2-1 Fulham
Joao Pedro converts and the Seagulls have swooped to win it at the death.
Bernd Leno was Fulham's penalty hero at Old Trafford last weekend but he can't stop this one despite diving the right way.
Out of nowhere, Brighton have finally got the Fulham Premier League monkey off their back.
-
Brighton 1-1 Fulham
Brighton have a penalty deep into stoppage time!
Five minutes were added on by the fourth official but in the sixth minute of injury time Harrison Reed kicked through the back of Joao Pedro, who launched himself into the air.
-
Full time - Crystal Palace 1-0 Ipswich
The points go to Palace.
-
88 - GOAL! Liverpool 3-1 Southampton
Another Liverpool penalty, another Mo Salah goal, another three points for the Reds.
-
Brighton 1-1 Fulham
Brighton have the ball in the back of the net again - and once more the flag is up for offside.
Danny Welbeck is the man denied this time, and the Seagulls are no nearer to ending their Fulham hoodoo.
-
82 - GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-0 Ipswich
Some magic from Ismaila Sarr breaks the deadlock at Selhurst Park!
It's beautiful football from the Eagles, who work quick passes outside the box before Sarr accelerates beyond his man.
There's still work to do as Alex Palmer races off his line, but the Palace forward shows real composure to lift his shot over the keeper and into the roof of the net.
-
The last knocking
The afternoon's games are inside their final ten minutes, and all are finely poised.
Well, all except Liverpool, who are as comfortable at 2-1 up as it's possible to be.
-
Dan King on Liverpool 2-1 Southampton
Naturally, It's Darwin Nunez who has turned the game when he probably shouldn't have been on the pitch.
Arsenal fans won't be the only ones questioning why he and Liverpool survived another big VAR call after Ibrahima Konate escaped a red card againsg PSG.
Nunez is off now, but as a substitute, with Diogo Jota on.
The Saints look understandably deflated but there's something there for them if they want it enough.
-
From Neil Silver at Selhurst Park
Eberechi Eze was the man enjoying the most chances as he saw one shot deflected on to the post, and other deflected effort acrobatically saved by Alex Palmer.
Palace might have been a team in form, but they are struggling to breach the League’s third worst defence.
