My date disappeared for 15 minutes – the reason he gave was so awkward but men say ‘at least he was honest’

SOMETIMES honesty isn't always the best policy, especially when you're trying to make a good first impression.

One woman said she wished her date had lied to her instead of being truthful about why he disappeared.

Shannon (@fluentlyforward) shared the first date story with over 380,000 TikTok followers.

She explained that her date had left her to use the bathroom but was gone for much longer than she expected.

"Years ago, I went ice skating in Central Park with this guy and we went to a bar beforehand for a drink and he went to the bathroom and he was gone for like 15 minutes," she said.

While the content creator thought that the urge was natural and normal, she was put off by her date's response when he returned.

"He came back and was like 'Sorry about that, I had to take a sh*t' — awkward for so many reasons," she said.

Shannon was rendered speechless by the blunt statement: "What do you say back? It's just no good," she said.

Instead of honesty, she believed it was okay in this instance to tell a little brown lie.

"Here's what you do if you find yourself having to go on a date and you're gone for way too long.

"You come back and... you say, 'Sorry about that, the line was awful' or you lie and you say 'Sorry about that, they only had one stall,'" she offered.

Even if your lies were to be discovered, say, your date went themselves and discovered there were, in fact, 15 stalls, Shannon said it wasn't a big deal.

"Don't worry about that, it's just a nice etiquette, a simple way to be like sorry for my absence, I didn't mean to be gone for that long but you don't need to talk about what you did," she said.

Even though her advice was geared toward men, few seemed to heed her words.

Some didn't think the incident was as big of a deal as it was for her and might even be a green flag.

"At least you know buddy is real honest, to the point. No lies, no-nonsense," said one commenter.

"I prefer honesty in people, if they tell me the truth, it's a green flag," said another.

"They're probably going to notice anyway when I run out to the car to get my travel bidet," joked one viewer.

One viewer offered a solution that eliminated the problem altogether: "That's why I always wear a diaper when I'm on a date," they said.
