Fire engulfs newbuild flats in Bromley and sends massive plume of smoke into sky
A FIRE has engulfed newbuild flats in Bromley - sending a massive plume of smoke into the sky.
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters are battling the blaze at a block of flats in the south east London neighbourhood.
Two flats on the tenth and eleventh floors are alight and there is heavy congestion on the road running past the building.
Crews have scrambled to the scene from fire stations across south east London after taking 16 calls this morning.
The London Fire Brigade took the first call about the fire at 9.52am this morning.
Firefighters are using a 32-metre turntable ladder to reach the flames in the tower.

Locals are urged to avoid the area while crews work to put out the blaze.
Station Commander Gary Melia said: "Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire under control.
"There is significant congestion on Westmoreland Road, so please avoid the area if you can.
"One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene to help fight the fire from above."
