Christina Morton DesAuguste, founder of The Organizing Company, bridged the gap between social media fads and real-world practicality.

DesAuguste told The U.S. Sun in an exclusive interview that she "doesn't believe" in hacks.

"I hate to be the killjoy, but there’s a reason that people call me in when they’ve tried all the hacks and still can’t get or stay organized," she said.

"Most homes I go into are too disorganized to rely on independent, non-contextualized hacks or product recommendations," the expert continued.

"For most people, the hack will create more chaos and clutter than it solves because it’s not used in conjunction with a process or method," DesAuguste added.

Instead, the organization process is much more streamlined than buying a catch-all product.

The first step is to declutter, choose what to keep, and decide where the items will go.

"Once you get to the step where you’re ready to fold things or put them in a container you’ll have an idea of what you need," DesAuguste said.

I'm a pro organizer & avoid a common tool that just keeps your home looking cluttered but others say they're 'essential'

For instance, if you decide where to store your spices, you can decide what product will organize them.

Buying a spice organizer for the sake of buying an organizer can hinder your de-cluttering if you purchase the wrong product.

"There are so many different ways to store spices, for example," the expert said.

They can be on the counter, in an upper cabinet, in a shallow drawer, in a deep drawer, in a lower pull-out cabinet, on a wall, or in a pantry.

"I believe in using a proven method that leads you to the best solution for your space and your stuff," she said.

DesAuguste has a free 9-minute video that teaches her method.

The pro also shared her tip for her favorite organizational tools from Amazon.

Open shelving might be a popular design trend, but DesAuguste said keeping items out of sight will make the home look chicer.

Finally, the pro shared tips for small homes. Declutter it as much as possible and only keep essentials on countertops, for instance.
