Desperate search for boy, 16, who vanished swimming with pals at Burnside Lakes in Cambridge
POLICE are searching for a 16-year-old boy who is believed to have got into difficulty while swimming in a lake.
Cambridgeshire Police said it was called by the ambulance service at 5.26pm on Monday reporting concerns for a teenager in the water at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton, just outside of Cambridge.
The force said emergency services and specialist teams attended but the boy has not been found.
A spokesman said: "It is believed the boy, who is 16 and from the Essex area, was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty.
"Search teams remain at the lake to find the boy and we ask that members of the public stay away from the area while this work is carried out."
The force said that the boy's family are aware.

Burnside Lakes, former chalk pits which were closed in the 1950s, is not open to the public and signs warn the public of deep water around the fenced area.
They are jointly owned by The Anderson Group, Cambridge City Council and Peterhouse College.
During lockdown in 2020 Cambridgeshire police issued a dispersal order preventing people from visiting the site and discouraging “dangerous swimming” in the lake.
The Met Office said Cambridge recorded the hottest temperature of the year so far yesterday at 34.8C.
That maximum easily beat the previous hottest day of 2024, which was July 30 when 32.0C was recorded in London at both Kew Gardens and Heathrow.
The news comes after it was revealed a 15-year-old schoolgirl was found dead after playing in Britain's longest river with friends.
Holli Smallman, 15, was playing on the banks in the River Severn when a group of teenagers went in - and she vanished under the waters.
