‘Common condensation problem’ plagues motorists but £1.99 hack can ‘work wonders’ – you might already have it at home

A CAR expert has revealed a cheap trick that will save you money and improve your car's safety.

Craig, who works at Walsall Wood Tyre & Service in Walsall, West Midlands, explained via TikTok how to remove condensation from your headlights - which is a common issue for drivers.

The TikToker and car expert recommended popping silica gel packs at the back of the headlights.

Silica gel contains particles that can absorb large amounts of water and are used to protect products from damp conditions.

Drivers can buy these packs for as little as £1.99 from Temu.

However, Craig warns motorists to be careful as the packs could "catch fire" if they get too close to the bulb.

Craig says condensation in the headlights "is very common" and is usually due to dampness getting inside due to a "failed seal on the headlamp".

He then revealed the best way he "personally found" to get rid of the condensation in the lamp.

Craig said: "The first thing you need to do is make sure your vehicle can be left running somewhere secure.... and on private property.

"It's a matter of taking the cover of the back of the headlights to access the bulb and leave the vehicle running with the headlights and high-beam on."

He later explained: "The more lights you can light up inside the headlamp unit the more heat they're going to create.

"With the cover removed from the back, most of that condensation should be able to evaporate and leave through the back of the headlight."

Following these steps should remove most if not all the condensation you are dealing with.

Craig's video has received hundreds of likes with people also sharing their tips and tricks.

One user wrote: "I put those big silicone gel packs in mine and they work wonders.

"Always gets them through the MOT."

While others recommended drivers to "drill a couple of really fine holes on the headlamp".

This comes after EV drivers were warned of extra costs they face from next year simply to keep their cars on the road.
