‘Several people killed’ in horror knife attack at festival in Germany as cops hunt for suspect on the run

SEVERAL people are reportedly dead and others seriously injured after a stabbing rampage at a festival in Germany.

A man is said to have begun attacking passersby at random in the city of Solingen in the west of the country at around 9.45pm local time this evening.

Dozens of emergency workers are at the scene.

The police have declared a major incident.

The attack took place at celebrations for the city's 650th anniversary at the Fronhof.

An area near the church square remains cordoned off and a situation centre has been set off at the Café Kersting, according to the Solinger Togeblatt.

The suspect fled the scene, witnesses told the outlet.
