IN the current economic climate we’re all doing the best we can to find deals on everything from clothes to food.
Especially around the festive season supermarkets do their best to entice shoppers with bargain deals.
Sometimes that means the shops you expect to give you the better deals actually find themselves outranked.
One savvy shopper shared findings in a Facebook post online.
The shopper said she realised her regular shopping was cheaper at Sainsbury's than at Asda or even Aldi.
In the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she said: “When your shopping is cheaper at Sainsbury’s than Asda!”
“Also filtered milk, potatoes, steak cut chips, bananas and cheapy frozen Yorkshires (44p!!!) all Aldi price matched and with Nectar price.”
She added: “Pork loin steaks, frozen peppers/onions/mushrooms, and some frozen chicken steaks (that were only £1!) were all cheaper than Aldi.”
The post racked up over 168 comments and 121 likes, but Facebook users were debating which supermarkets were offering the best deals.
One user argued: “And better quality at Sainsbury's.”
Another said: “We switched to Sainsbury's last year and it's the best decision I made. I used my nectar points for my Christmas shop.”
A third user added: “I do online grocery shopping at Sainsbury's. You can get saver slots for £1."
"It's very rare they don't have items I've ordered and you get nectar points and the food is always a good date and fresh really good prices.”
“Told ya Sainsbury's is the way forward haha,” someone else added.
But not everyone agreed Sainsbury's was offering the best goods.
One user said: “I don't like the way Sainsbury's pack their mince. It's all compact.”
Another said: “Sainsbury's not as dear as everyone thinks. Also if you use your nectar card often set up a smart shop and you get the things you buy at a cheaper price.”
A third user pointed out: “The mince from Sainsbury's is horrid. Otherwise, we use Sainsbury's and odd bits from Aldi.”
Bear in mind prices may vary in-store compared to online.
If you are ordering online you will need to factory in a delivery charge though it may be cheaper to order food as part of a weekly shop.
Remember to compare prices across stores, just because an item is discounted doesn't mean you won't be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.
