I bought a new build as my first home but trolls say it looks like an ‘ugly block of flats’ – I don’t care, I’m proud

BUYING your first home and getting on the property market when the country is going through a cost-of-living crisis is a major achievement in itself.

But one woman named Dee, who bought a new build property and did just that, has told how she's received negative comments from cruel trolls online, with several comparing her home to an "ugly block of flats."

In one clip posted to TikTok (@dearymedee), she notes: "POV: You were proud to buy your first house so you share it online and everyone's asking why you bought an ugly block of flats."

One person meanly wrote: "100% is a block of flats."

A second noted: "It’s defo the doorway and stairs that make it look like flats."

A third pointed out: "Once you explained it was narrow and an end terrace, it made much more sense!"

However, in a second video, the first-time buyer shared a comment from a social media user who jumped to her defence.

The person wrote: "I hate that you have to keep explaining yourself.

"It's beautiful and you love it and that's ALL that matters,"

In response, Dee offered a glimpse inside her stunning new home, which is complete with gorgeous interior.

"I absolutely agree with this comment - I should never have to explain myself why we bought the house that we bought," she says.

"I didn't see that many Brentford's on Instagram, on TikTok, or Pinterest so I want to be able to share my journey in a Brentford just to show how you can decorate a new build and add some character.

"That's the space of the internet I want to occupy myself, personally.

"If somebody is watching my videos and sees a Brentford come up or
even just a new build - they can get inspiration from my videos and that's perfect and that's the reason why I've decided to share my journey.

"1. For the house type.

"2. Because it's a new build and how we're adding character.

"3. Sharing my interior design I have a real passion for it."

It wasn't long before the post went viral, racking up thousands of views and hundreds of comments, with many quick to commend Dee for her beautiful property.

"I feel soooo sorry for you, people are judgey. You clearly love this house and are so proud of it! I think the inside is gorge," wrote one.

Dee replied: "Don’t feel sorry for us! I mean, we bought a house so we’re so privileged and proud to have done so. But thank you!"

A second penned: "I would love your house to be mine. I don’t know what people are talking about. I have a new build and the slagging off really does my head in too."

Dee responded: "I love a new build! Gets bad rep as people only complain publicly when things go wrong. Not having to reno and being warm really was a bonus for us!"

A third enthused: "Lovely decor. I can’t stand snobbery against new builds (as someone in a damp old house). Love the cats too!"

Meanwhile, a fourth praised: "It's an absolutely beautiful home."
