Major rescue operation as boat carrying 100 migrants capsizes in English Channel – with 10 fighting for life
A MAJOR rescue operation has been launched after a boat containing at least 100 migrants capsized in the Channel.
Around 10 people are understood to be in a critical condition after the boat "got into difficulty", French authorities say.
Olivier Barbarin, the mayor of French coastal town Le Portel, told France 3: "Around 10 people in cardio-respiratory arrest".
It is currently unknown whether there are any further casualties.
French coastguard vessels Minck and Abeille Normandie have been seen on search and rescue duty near Le Portel.
