I was sick of paying £800 a month for one room so me & my son live in a Ford Transit van & my outgoings are so minute

A WOMAN has told how she was so sick of forking out a whopping £800 a month for a room in London, that she decided to take matters in her own hands.

Beck, who is also known as The Nomad Mother, lives full-time in a Ford Transit van with her son - and it's little wonder people are super impressed with what she's done to the inside.

In the clip shared to YouTube channel @Liveration, which offers tours inside tiny homes, the former interior designer, who worked for a pub company, explains: "My outgoings are so minute...

"I don't know how people could survive being a single parent living the way you're meant to live. I just don't know how you could do that, but I found a way."

Beck, who used to do a lot of travelling when she was in a band, explains that when she and her partner had just broken up, she moved out of their flat and into a property.

"It was £800 a month, it was in London, I was like I'm just in a room and I can't justify that, so I decided to buy a van," she recalls.

But Beck says she "resented" spending so much money on the flat, so she bought a van and lived in that in London instead - and felt "more comfortable" because she could move around whenever she wanted.

"I see people struggling with mortgage and rent, and I don't have that. I've got a lot more freedom in my cash," she explains.

"Obviously, I don't have a lot of cash, but I don't need to chase that.

"I've had jobs where I've had a high paid job still working and living in a van, and that was great because it just means I could do more fun things rather than knowing half of my money that I earn is going on rent or mortgage.

"There's a lot more freedom in your lifestyle when you're living like this."

She adds that while it's not desirable for everyone, it's desirable for her - adding "it's just about big enough for us."

Beck, who often posts her journey on Instagram, goes on to offer a tour of her van and explains that she has a 240-volt solar on the roof and is planning on adding a tiny roof rack to house a storage box.

Inside what she refers to as the "garage," she stores her son's fold-down pushchair, a box full of all her shoes, and his car seat's in the middle.

Along with having a raised fixed bed, she has a sofa with extra storage, water on a foot pump and fridge.

She also has a cooker, plenty of storage, and a curtain made from an old tablecloth which separates her son's room from the rest of the van so she can have her "own space" when he's asleep.

The video has since garnered over 411k views and hundreds of comments, with many praising the mum and her van build.

"The bedroom is amazing. There so much this little guy can learn on his adventures with mum," wrote one.

A second enthused: "I really like the layout with the cosy bed area in the middle and a living space in the rear, with the option of the barn doors being open for a great view and easy access.

"I haven't seen a conversion like this before but it seems practical and quirky."

A third penned: "What a unique layout in this van build. It is absolutely perfect for your living situation with still having your privacy.

"Raising your son on the road will give him exposure to the outdoor adventures that he would probably not have otherwise."

Meanwhile, a fourth urged: "Cherish these moments because you have the opportunity to spend quality time with him.

"Big homes are over rated your van is beautiful but the time with your son is priceless."
