If you’re only washing your hair once a week, you’re likely using the wrong shampoo – it’s not the best way anymore

A HAIRCARE expert has insisted that washing your hair just once a week isn't as great as it used to be.

She said that it might come down to using the wrong shampoo in your beauty regimen and offered tips to revitalize your follicles.

Trichologist Taylor Rose (@thehealthyhur) helps women regrow their hair using her professional expertise.

She advised viewers in the video caption to "stop suffocating your scalp and hair please."

"Washing your hair once a week or less used to be the healthiest thing you could do for your hair, but now it's not," she said.

Taylor Rose has been in the beauty industry for over a decade and has seen how it has changed.

"With the rise of hair talk, and just general knowledge around hair and what's in our shampoos, most shampoos on the market are a lot gentler now," she explained.

As a result, they're leaning towards more natural ingredients, and have fewer surfactants, which can make hair feel dry and brittle.

"Because they're gentler, they're not stripping your hair as much as the harsh ingredients that used to be in shampoos were," she added.

Overall it's a great thing, but can give you oily hair quickly.

"If you're using a good, non-harmful shampoo, you should be shampooing three to four times a week to keep your scalp clean and healthy hair growing," she suggested.

Viewers were not the biggest fans of her recommendation and made that known in the comments.

"It took me 4 years to work up to once per week. No oil. I worked hard for this!!" one commented.

"No thanks. I do not have the energy to style my hair more than twice a week. It's tiring and I'm not motivated," another shared.

"Three to four times a week? No. I could never," a TikTok user chimed in.

"Curly hair says no," another bluntly wrote.
