I did a council house swap but it took hundreds of pounds to clean the mess left behind – there was human poo to clear

COUNCIL house tenants are able to switch their house to another rented council property, if the other person agrees, which is what happened to Kylie Louise.

But things didn’t go quite as smoothly as Kylie had planned, as she revealed that she was left horrified at the mess left behind in her new council house.

Not only did the mother find someone else’s rubbish all over the floor, including pooey pants, but she also found human poo under the bed too.

As well as this, the home was full of stuff - including boxes of clothes and piles of hair.

And the mess wasn’t just in the house, as the garden had clearly been used as a dumping ground too - and was full of rubbish, including mattresses, bed slats and more.

Posting on social media, Kylie explained that she had to pay hundreds of pounds to clean the property, as she gave her followers a close-up look at the house when she moved in.

She explained: “After being homeless, then living in a flat for two years, I jumped at the chance for a three bedroom house.

“I didn't think I’d need to spend over £200 on cleaning products and for it to take four weeks just to clean and get the bedrooms half decent.”

As she shared pictures of the mess, she added: “When you do a housing swap with an absolute tramp and [are] left to clean human s**t.”

Kylie later opened up on the experience and explained that she was left absolutely devastated when her family moved in.

She explained: “Will be forever grateful and happy once all finished.

“Just takes the p**s when you leave your home spotless for them.”

My council house was run down and bare when I moved in - using goodies from The Range I’ve made it look ‘lush’

She also advised: “If doing a swap, make sure you check every single inch of the house.

“I was told every time I came to view [that] people were asleep upstairs so I just accepted pictures! Silly me.

Was absolutely soul destroying that anyone could do that

“You don’t expect to find human turds under beds that they’ve left do you?

“I cried for two weeks solid. It’s so bad.

“These aren’t even the worst photos I have from it.

“Was absolutely soul destroying that anyone could do that!

“Lots to do but we’re getting there.”

Kylie later explained that five weeks after moving in, the old tennant’s stuff is still in the garage, as she continued: “The garage here is still FULL, five weeks later [we’re] still waiting for it to be emptied.

“The job clearly wasn’t done properly!”

At the end of the clip, Kylie shared pictures of her home’s transformation.

Not only had the busy mother cleaned the property from top to bottom, but she also laid new carpet and gave the home a lick of fresh paint.

What is a council house swap?

A council house swap, also known as a mutual exchange, is a scheme for people who live in a council or housing association property who would like to swap their home with another tenant.

People often swap to get a larger or smaller home or to move to a different area.

When you mutually exchange your home, you are swapping tenancies with someone else.

Anyone with a full secure or fixed term social housing tenancy in their name with a clear rent account can do a mutual exchange.

You cannot swap your home if you:

  • have an introductory tenancy
  • have a probationary tenancy
  • are in temporary housing

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @kylielouise11, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 124,300 views.

Social media users were left horrified at the mess of Kylie’s home and many took to the comments to praise her home’s transformation.

One person said: “It’s shocking how some people live! I'm sure when I looked into swapping years ago both properties had to be assessed and passed for the swap.”

Another added: “I would have been mortified! Some people have no shame!! Looks lovely! You did a great job.”

A third commented: “Shocking how people leave properties, but well done and good luck in your new beautiful home.”
