6 suffer food poisoning after eating tiramisu at Italian restaurant in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai
Six people have fallen ill with food poisoning after consuming tiramisu at Italian restaurant Pirata in Wan Chai, according to Hong Kong health authorities.
The Centre for Health Protection said on Tuesday that two groups of customers, comprising four women and two men, had lunch at the restaurant last Friday and developed symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and fever about nine to 22 hours after their meal.
“[Initial investigations] revealed that the affected persons had consumed common food and the food concerned was tiramisu,” the spokesman said.
“Officers initially suspected that the food concerned was made inadequately and was stored under improper temperatures.”
The first group were two females aged 41 and 45, who fell sick about nine to 19 hours after having lunch at the restaurant on October 25.
The other group comprised two males and two females, aged between 32 and 34, who became ill about 16 to 22 hours after having lunch at the same restaurant on the same day.
Among the six patients, five sought medical advice with two requiring hospitalisation.
