Becoming a TV presenter

Sophie was born on February 24, 1985, in Crowborough, East Sussex.

She grew up in Scotland, after her family relocated to Moray when she was a child.

The star quickly realised that she wanted to pursue a career in TV and began to land regular stints on some of the UK's leading shows.

She has appeared on Britain's Missing Top Model, Beyond Boundaries and is one of the main sports pundits for Channel 4's Paralympic coverage.

Throughout her career, she's been dedicated to providing representation for disabled people.

Sophie even invented the Mannequal, a wheelchair for mannequins in clothing shops.

Sophie's tragic accident

Sophie was just 18-years-old when she was involved in a crash which left her paralysed from the ribs down.

She had been driving a car between parties in Elgin, Scotland, when she came off the road.

Although her four friends only received minor injuries, Sophie was trapped underneath the car.

She told the Sun: "I wasn't drunk, I was just driving like an idiot.

"I'd only had my licence a few months, so I wasn't particularly experienced.

"Because the car was full of my friends I was a bit distracted and it was late at night, about 3 or 4 in the morning on country lanes.

"It was a perfect storm for a crash really."

20 years after the accident, Sophie told The Sun in 2018: “It’s about a marking of the day to say, ‘I'm still here. What have I achieved?’

"Back at the beginning, everyone told me there were so many things I couldn't do, shouldn't do, and wouldn't do.

“And I was like, ‘Hold on a minute. Why not?’ and every year I set the goal a little bit higher and make the goalposts a little bit wider.

“There are a lot of glass ceilings for people like me, and I'm constantly trying to dismantle those.”

Sophie went on: “It's not about celebrating the fact that I was paralysed.

“It's more about celebrating the fact I didn't die, because I did very nearly die in the crash."
