You can now name a cockroach or rat after your ex and it’ll be fed to animals in a zoo for Valentine’s Day
DO you have an ex partner that makes your skin crawl when you think of them?
This Valentine’s Day you can get some sweet satisfaction by naming a cockroach or rat - whatever fits them best - after your ex and having it fed to an animal at the zoo.
Scorned lovers can put two fingers up at traditional romantic gestures on February 14 and take advantage of the unique opportunity, thanks to San Antonio Zoo.
Back due to popular demands, their “Cry Me A Cockroach” package is now an annual event.
All you need to do is fork out £8 for a cockroach or £20 for a rodent, and they will be fed to one of the zoo’s residents.
Veggies are also catered for, as there is also a £4 meat-free alternative available.
More on Valentine's Day
The website states: “Be part of the global sensation and ex-terminate your past and support a noble cause with the Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser.
“Symbolically name a roach, rat, or veggie after your ex or not-so-special someone and San Antonio Zoo will help squash your past, a true heartbreak healer, by feeding your selection to an animal resident.
“This fundraiser received international attention last year, this year, it promises to be even more sensational.”
Not only will there be a cockroach or rat named after your ex, but you’ll also get a digital Valentine’s Day card too as a fond keepsake.
This can be sent to just you as a token reminder, but also to your ex, if you are feeling in the mood for some Valentine’s Day drama.
While the project is taking place across the pond in Texas, you can buy your “vermin” from around the world.
In fact, people from over 30 countries have taken part from afar.
The zoo also gave more details about the process for those interested in putting a past ex behind them.
They said: “Live roaches are sourced from professional roach breeders, the colony is cared for and maintained by the Reptile Department in the Reptile House.
“Pre-frozen rodents we utilise are part of regular daily scheduled feedings of our animals.
“They are delivered frozen from a mouse farm and stored at our Nutrition Center until thawed for feedings.
“You can purchase a Veggie option to be fed to one of our vegetarian animals on Valentine’s Day.

“Veggies consist of romaine lettuce, cabbage, and other leafy greens.”
Whether your ex was more or a rat or limp lettuce leaf, this is certainly a unique way to get over a broken heart on Valentine’s Day.
