‘Several shoppers stabbed by knifeman in Sydney mall’ as armed cops evacuate terrified witnesses and lock down area

FOUR people have died and at least six others are injured after a knifeman reportedly attacked shoppers at a busy mall in Sydney.

It is understood one of the ten victims is a baby.

Armed cops rushed to the scene and evacuated terrified witnesses from Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre on Saturday afternoon.

Video showed crowds fleeing the busy mall as police officers rushed to the scene about 3.45pm local time.

Outside the shopping centre, a witness told reporters he saw a body covered in blood.

Several New South Wales Ambulance vehicles were seen arriving at the door of the centre, as cops confirmed a man was shot.

NSW Police said in a statement, released about 4.30pm Saturday: "A critical incident has commenced following the shooting of male at Bondi Junction.

"Just before 4pm, emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction following reports of multiple people stabbed.

"People are urged to avoid the area.

"Inquiries are continuing in relation to the incident and there are no further details."

Paramedics responded to "reports of a male running around Westfield with a knife" shortly before 4pm, according to a report by The Guardian.

Police will provide an update to media at 5.45pm local time.
