‘Aldi is the trenches’ shoppers say as they share reality of Britain’s Favourite Supermarket & call it ‘Primark of food’
THIS year, Aldi was named Britain’s Favourite Supermarket.
Shoppers rated Aldi as the nation’s most popular supermarket, according to polling data from YouGov.
It came a week after Aldi was named by Which? as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the 16th consecutive month.
However, shoppers have taken to social media to show the true reality of shopping in Aldi, as many have branded it the ‘Primark of supermarkets’.
Posting online, Lucy, a young woman from Sheffield, documented her recent experience in the supermarket.
Lucy described the visit as ‘stressful’ as she documented her experience standing in the large queue.

She wrote: “Shopping at Aldi is genuinely so stressful.”
As Lucy stood with her trolley, which contained just one bag of groceries, she added: “Overstimulated to the max, dripping with sweat, getting rammed by trolley’s in every direction.”
Not only this, but as Lucy recorded herself looking visibly stressed out at the shopping ordeal, she spotted “workers shouting [and] kids screaming.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @my_dixienormous0, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 10,300 views.
Social media users were eager to agree with Lucy and many took to the comments to express this.
One person said: “The Primark of supermarkets.”
Another added: “Sheffield Aldi is the actual trenches.”
In response, Lucy replied: “Genuinely never experienced anything like it.”
A third commented: “Aldi is the supermarket version of Primark.”
Meanwhile, an Aldi employee chimed in and wrote: “Try working there, all that for 8+ hours a day, literally the pits of hell.”
Whilst another shopper advised: “Put some music in your ears, [it] helps a lot.”
But Lucy isn’t the only one to dislike shopping in Aldi.
Recently, we saw a mother named Sinead Baldev open up about her dislike for the chain.
Not only did Sinead claim that the supermarket gives her anxiety, but she also claimed that the fruit and veg “literally goes off before you’ve even got home.”
If that wasn’t enough, Sinead continued: “It is so busy. There are so many people and everyone is just shooting everywhere. I can’t deal with it.
“Because I don’t shop there, I don’t know where anything is.
“I can’t concentrate. It stresses me out.”
Discussing the checkouts, Sinead continued: “Then we have the whole checkout experience.
“They throw your shopping at you. Your shopping is getting thrown at you. It’s a lot.
“I’ve told them to slow down so many times.”
Despite these customer complaints, Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “Low prices never go out of fashion which is why Aldi is – and will continue to be – loved by so many.
“Our unbeatable combination of high-quality products at low prices has helped us attract around a million new customers in the past year alone, but we’re not stopping there.
