Sign language interpreter Daryl had been appearing on the Channel 4 programme all series to support deaf contestant, Tasha.

Unfortunately, Tasha just missed out on bagging a spot in the grand final when her bakes fell at the final hurdle last week.

The broadcaster has now confirmed that it has also brought Daryl's time on the show to an end.

However, many fans have been left calling on him to remain with the programme and act as its 'fifth host'.

The newly-famed TV star found himself at the front of the infamous Bake Off tent alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding as well as judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Confirming that he would be waving a goodbye, the programme makers said in a post: "We're also saying a fond farewell to Tasha's BSL interpreter Daryl.

"We thank him so much for everything he's done in the Tent over the last nine weeks."

The post was littered with replies from viewers who were left backing Daryl to return next year as a permanent addition to the show.

One pleaded with the network: "In a way, it would be nice for him to just stay and sign for all the deaf viewers at home."

Another added: "Adding another vote for Daryl being a permanent part of the team.

"In one season of the show, I’ve picked up some signs because we’re seeing it every week (and have now signed up for a course to learn). Imagine how much better it would be if this is what multiple shows did in having a sign-language interpreter as part of the show for everyone."

Someone else echoed: "I think he should be permanently in the tent!! So many people with hearing impairments would appreciate him being there."

A fourth went onto say: "Erm petition to keep Daryl as the fifth member of the bake off team!"

Before a fifth penned: "I second Daryl being a permanent fixture for inclusivity going forward. He has become part of the team."

Three competitors remain hoping to be crowned the champion of series 14.

Dan, Matty, and Josh are the three finalists vying for the title of Great British Bake Off 2023.

Their last three bakes are going to be a multi-layered Showstopper cake, a nostalgic Technical, and a choux pastry Signature.
