Most popular New Year’s resolutions for 2025 revealed – but one great game is missing

According to a survey conducted by Forbes Advisor, only 30% of Brits planned to make a New Year’s resolution, with a further 8% still undecided.
While 51% of 18-34 year olds surveyed planned on setting an objective for the year, just 12% of those in the 55+ category had a goal in mind for 2024.
The inclination to make a New Year’s resolution seemed to decline the further south the survey participants lived.

Liverpool proved to be home to the most enthusiastic resolution-makers, with 40% of those surveyed planning to set a 2024 goal.
However, down in Brighton, an underwhelming 14% had plans to see in the new year with a specific intention.

What are people planning on committing to achieving in 2024?
As with most years, the list was topped by the usual commitments: exercise more (40%), lose weight (35%) and improve diet (33%).

There were some resolutions that might not have been made even a few years ago; dedications to improving mental health.
Nearly a quarter of those surveyed wanted to reduce their stress levels.
Meanwhile, 22% wished to enhance their emotional wellbeing.

However, how often do the best laid plans actually progress as we want them to do?

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, 21% of those surveyed admitted their goals were likely to last less than a month.
However, the most recent resolutions of 34% of the group lasted between one and three months.
Despite how it seems, Brits do have staying power!
An impressive 62% of people reported to have stuck to their goal over the course of the year.

Furthermore, over half of us have successfully maintained at least one New Year’s resolution from the past, still practising it in the present.
