Zebra crossing that cost £30k closed after two weeks & branded ‘ridiculous’ safety hazard – can you spot the problem?
A ZEBRA crossing that cost £30,000 to build has been closed just two weeks after opening as it was branded a "ridiculous" safety hazard.
Drivers risk holding up traffic or even putting themselves in harm's way thanks to the design, which locals suspect wasn't fully thought through.
The crossing was put in at the end of a side road connecting with the busy A5026 running through the town.
However, it did not leave much of a gap between the crossing point and the junction itself.
One motorist told The Leader: "I've almost gone in the back of someone a couple of times as they slam on [the brakes].
"It's simply not a safe place for a zebra crossing.

"Far too close to a very busy junction.
"Must be hell at school times."
Critics claim that there is not enough space for cars turning off the main road to stop for pedestrians without obstructing the carriageway.
If anyone tries to cross, motorists would have to wait with the back end of their vehicle hanging out into the oncoming lane.
Likewise, opponents suggest that the angle of the bend leading into the junction means that drivers might not be able to get a clear view of people approaching the crossing.
This could, they claim, mean people have to brake hard while turning across a busy road to avoid hitting anyone, putting themselves at risk.
Town councillor Daniel Thomas said: "I think it’s more dangerous as
"I’ve witnessed cars not stopping even with people waiting there.
"And when a car does stop the back of the car is hanging out onto the main road which then can cause a car to clip the back end."
The council has now announced the crossing will be "temporarily closed" after safety concerns were raised.
The lights will be turned off and a sign will be put up to inform pedestrians that it is out of action.
A spokesperson for Flintshire County Council told The Leader: "The zebra crossing was implemented earlier this month as part of a wider Safer Routes in the Community scheme aimed at improving access to Ysgol Gwenffrwd and St Winefrides primary school.
"Following concerns raised by local residents, the zebra crossing will be temporarily closed in order to undertake additional safety checks."
