Nurse shares the ‘trashiest’ baby name she’s ever heard – and the mum was ‘really snarky’ when she tried to pronounce it
Choosing a name for your baby is a big responsibility and parents often like to honour a family member with their pick.
But a nurse has revealed how one set of parents had an unexpected take on a classic moniker that they bestowed on their new child.
Anna, who has worked in neonatal intensive care and children’s critical care wards, was asked by another mum what the ‘trashiest’ baby name she had come across in her career.
She said: “I don’t know if it was trashy but it was… different.”
The respiratory therapist explained she was working at the children’s hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, around 20 years ago and would help out the other nurses between her patients.
She said: “I didn’t have anything to do so I told the charge nurse: ‘Hey, I’ll help out in triage’.”

Speaking on her TikTok channel @travellinggremlin, she revealed that at triage, she was assigned a young patient whose first name was Liam.
She said: “We’re gonna pick a generic last name - Jones. So I call over and over: Liam Jones. Nobody responded.
“We give them three chances so I try again, a few minutes apart. I keep going and I keep going.
“At the third time, when I’m about to toss the chart, I had a mum stand up and ask: ‘Do you mean Yum?’.
“I was like:’ Excuse me?’. I said: ‘Come up here, let’s take a look’.”
After checking the child’s date of birth and other details, Anna established that the child was indeed Liam - but pronounced ‘Yum’.
She revealed: “Dad’s name was William and there were twins. One baby was named Wil, W-I-L. Just one L.
“And the other’s name was spelt L-I-A-M. Which I thought was Liam. But no, it was ‘Yum’.
“It’s my mom’s favourite story of mine, in my 20 year career.
“All I can think, when I encounter s*** like this is, you have to have a licence to hunt, fish, drive, build a house, do my career.
“But anybody can have a baby - and name them. Wow.”
Another nurse replied to the video and revealed: “Worked at the same hospital and X-rayed the same child.
"I got a much ‘snarkier’ response from mom when she didn’t answer during ortho clinic.”
And another follower, Nicole Reynolds Tayl, responded: “Honey, my Liam was in hospital with you about 16 years ago and you made sure to double check how to say his name and told us this story.
Anna replied: “Are you kidding me? That time line matches!”

"He is 18 now and absolutely thriving thanks to all of you in Memphis.”
