Max George concerns fans as he pulls out of upcoming play for ‘personal reasons’ just weeks before it starts

MAX George has sparked concern after pulling out of his upcoming play at the last minute.

The singer, 35,  is due to appear in The Syndicate opposite Brooke Vincent when it kicks off next month but has said he was unable to due to “personal reasons”.

In a statement this afternoon, Max wrote: “Hey everyone. Really gutted but for person reasons I won’t be taking part in The Syndicate. It’s gonna be a an amazing show and I wish Gaynor and all the cast all the luck in the world.

“I’ll be there to cheer you on once I’m feeling better.”

The news comes after Max returned from a romantic break in Dubai with girlfriend Maisie Smith.

Max was set to make his stage debut in the world premiere tour of Kay Mellor's final play The Syndicate.

Based on the hugely popular BBC One show, Kay’s daughter, Gaynor Faye, will be making her directorial debut, bringing her mother’s work to life. 

Max was set to play the role of a supermarket assistant called Jamie.

Max's statement in full

“Hey everyone. Really gutted but for person reasons I won’t be taking part in The Syndicate.

"It’s gonna be a an amazing show and I wish Gaynor and all the cast all the luck in the world.

“I’ll be there to cheer you on once I’m feeling better.”

Speaking previously about taking part, he said: “I’m delighted that my stage debut role is in The Syndicate. I’m such a huge fan of Kay’s work, and it’s an honour to be part of this world premiere tour. I feel like I’ve won the lottery!”

The play will also see Emmerdale star Samantha Giles as kind-hearted worker Denise.

Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent, who is best known for portraying Sophie Webster in Coronation Street, will also be hitting the stage with the other stars, playing the role of Jamie’s sister-in-law, Amy. 

Max is best known for his hit songs with his former band The Wanted,  including All Time Low and Chasing the Sun and playing the role of Clint in the smash hit FOX TV show Glee.

In recent years he has taken part in a number of reality shows, including Dancing On Ice, Strictly and The Masked Singer.
