Acting Superintendent Fung Chun-pang of the force’s operations wing revealed on Sunday that the 46 solved cases included a murder, robberies and several related to triad gangsters in possession of imitation firearms.

Fung said a total of 504 surveillance cameras had been installed across the city since March.

“Police will continue selecting suitable locations across all 18 districts to install CCTV cameras, aiming to have a total of 2,000 sets installed by 2025,” he said.

He added that the force would actively study various technological solutions based on experiences from around the world to further enhance overall public safety and order.

According to police, 50 surveillance cameras – nearly a tenth of the 504 installed – were placed around the city’s Central entertainment hub, Lan Kwai Fong.

Commissioner of Police Raymond Siu Chak-yee told the Post in an exclusive interview last week that cameras at the party district would have crowd counting capacity for the coming Halloween festivities, with facial recognition technology to be added next year.
