At the moment, the American is at the top of the leaderboard alongside New Zealand's Hamish Kerr.

The pair are guaranteed a medal with the only other man in contention being Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim.

  • Kipyegon sets new Olympic Record!

The sensational track performances just keep on coming!

This time it's Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, who runs an astonishing 3:51.29 to break her own Olympic Record in 1500m!

If her gold in Tokyo was good, this was something else as she triumphs in what was an incredibly fast race.

The field went off at some pace and it showed with six personal bests displaying on the big screen at the event's conclusion.

Among those are the two brilliant Team GB runners, Georgia Bell and Laura Muir, who came in third and fifth respectively.

Bell's run for bronze was a new National Record, and saw her cross the line just behind Australia's Jessica Hull, who took silver.

    • Gold: Faith Kipyegon (Kenya)
    • Silver: Jessica Hull (Australia)
    • Bronze: Georgia Bell (Great Britain)
  • Ingebrigtsen cruises to stylish win!

    Redemption for Jakob Ingebrigtsen!

The Norwegian star blew it in the 1500m, but he has shown that he's a class apart tonight by cruising to take gold in the 5000m.

Ingebrigtsen made his move with a third of the race remaining, and nobody could keep pace.

A long way back, Kenyan Ronald Kwemoi runs a fine race in second, while Grent Fisher finishes brilliantly to sneak bronze for the USA.

    • Gold: Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway)
    • Silver: Ronald Kwemoi (Kenya)
    • Bronze: Grent Fisher (USA)
  • Choong defence ends in disappointment.

Joe Choong handed over his Olympic modern pentathlon crown after giving himself no chance of retaining his title.

Choong, who hunted down Egypt’s Ahmed Elgendy to win gold in Tokyo three years ago, found himself in an impossible position after his day one fencing fiasco.

And while the 29-year-old multiple world champion showed grit and determination in his forlorn task, he finished in ninth place, 35 seconds behind the Egyptian.

Choong, who started the day 17th in the 18-man field, needed a perfect evening to get in the medal hunt.

But he had one fence down in the showjumping and while he was fastest in the 200m swim it meant he began the laser run 50 seconds down on Elgendy and 14th overall and while he made up five places, a medal was beyond his grasp.

  • Mills takes his mark

Next up at the Stade de France is the Men's 5000m, and that means an opportunity for GB's George Mills to add to the silver medal he won at the European Championships.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is seen as the man to beat...

  • Russell wins for Team USA!

Masai Russell wins the Women's 100m hurdles right on the line!

And just like the Men's 800m, it could not not have been any closer!

The American comes through in the final stages to edge out home favourite Cyrena Samba-Mayela in an incredible finish.

Both runners look anxiously to the big screen for confirmation of the result, and then the celebrations begin.

Samba-Mayela breaks down in tears of joy with her silver being France's first track and field medal of these games - the stadium respond with an incredible reception for the 23-year-old.

  • Wanyonyi wins by a nose!

Wow! What a race! And what a finish!

Emmanuel Wanyonyi holds off the challenge of Marco Arop to cross the line one-hundredth of a second ahead of his rival.

It's an astonishing run from the Kenyan, who hit the front with one lap remaining and just kept going.

Arop and Algerian Djamel Sedjati pushed the leader hard in the final 50m, but Wanyonyi somehow dig deep to keep himself in front and take gold by the narrowest of margins.

    • Gold: Emmanuel Wanyonyi (Kenya)
    • Silver: Marco Arop (Canada)

The only goal of the contest was scored by forward Mallory Swanson, who was making her 100th appearance for the US.

Not even the introduction of the legendary Marta could bring Brazil back into it as USA held on for their fifth Olympic gold in Women's football.

  • Portugal snatch gold in Madison!

Portugal win their first gold medal of Paris 2024 - and what a way to do it!

They burst through dramatically in the final sprint of the race for double points and push long-time leaders Italy into second place.

No wonder Iuri Leitao and Rui Oliveira cannot believe what they've done, they were barely in contention with 50 laps to go.

But they raced brilliantly to claim 27 of their 35 sprint points in the final quarter of the contest, and triumph against all odds.

Lydia Ko finally has her hands on a gold medal!

The Kiwi golfer had to settle for bronze in the Women's Individual stroke play in Toyko, having been so close to glory in Rio five years earlier, when she claimed silver.

She had indicated this would be her last shot at the Olympics, and she has held her nerve in the final round to finish two shots ahead of the field.

Ko finished two strokes ahead of Germany's Esther Henseleit, who piled on the pressure with a brilliant round of 66.

    HE'S DONE IT!

Caden Cunningham wins the deciding round via most landed hits and is through to the gold medal match!
