  • Keane reveals job rejection

Roy Keane has revealed new Manchester United chief Dan Ashworth once rejected him for a job.

The former United captain has not worked as a manager since leaving Ipswich in 2011.

He revealed he once interviewed for the West Brom job with Ashworth, who spent time at the Baggies when they were a Premier League team between 2007-12.

However he was turned down by the man who became United's sporting director earlier this month.

Keane joked as he spoke about Ashworth's arrival at Old Trafford on the Stick to Football podcast.

He said: “I don’t know if he’s that clever because he interviewed me for a job a few years ago and didn’t give it to me. It was the West Brom job.

“The interview was good, just a bit of chit chat about football and my plans. It’s always strange for any manager, what is a good or bad interview? It’s hard to gauge.

“Sometimes you get a feeling for somebody, and you respect who they go with. I sat with him, and it wasn’t meant to be obviously.”

  • Legend's homecoming

Man Utd icon Nani has brought his career full circle - by joining his hometown club Estrela da Amadora.

The Portugal winger, 37, was a free agent after leaving Turkish side Adana Demirspor in May.

He has now penned a one-year deal with Estrela, who finished 14th in the Primeira Liga last season.

They will be the TENTH different club of his much-travelled career.

Nani was born in Amadora, north-west of capital Lisbon, before going on to make his name with Sporting and then United.

  • Wan-Bissaka interest

West Ham are close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, the defender's wage demands could prove problematic when it comes to personal terms.

Wan-Bissaka, 26, has one year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford meaning he could agree a pre-contract with a club overseas in January on lucrative terms.

The Hammers are confident of securing a deal with the Red Devils, with a fee north of £10million, but are pushing to find a compromise on wages.

Striker Hojlund will be out of action for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Rashford limped out of Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Real Betis in San Diego on Wednesday night.

The United forward suffered a heavy challenge on the hour, which should have won a penalty, as Sergi Altimera stamped down on his ankle.

  • Mount optimistic

Mason Mount has called on his Manchester United team-mates to show their true potential in the upcoming season.

He told MUTV: “We know what we can do as a group and I think we showed it at the end of last season

“We definitely have a group that can win trophies and that's the most important thing.

“We'll keep trying to do that and stay focused on that goal, because this is Manchester United and we need to set the bar as high as we can and we know how high the bar is.

“Now it's time for us to perform. But we're ready for it, as I said, and as many trophies as we can get, win as many games as we can.

“That's our focus throughout the whole group. We're definitely on the same page.”

  • Hojlund slammed

Erik ten Hag has been warned that Rasmus Hojlund will never be the club's striking saviour.

Ex-Red Devils hitman Dwight Yorke said: ' “I think it’s going to be very difficult for Hojlund to be a 20-goal a-season striker from what I’ve seen and I think it will never happen.

“He’s still young but even watching him at Euro 2024, he’s lacking something. I’m not quite sure what it is. He’s not got that X factor that you look for in strikers.

“I think he’s a good player. I think that’s the category I would put him in as he’s still very developing and there is huge hope for the kid and I wish him the best but I’m not seeing it just yet.

“I hope he surprises me but I have my doubts about it. I just think that is he going to be Manchester United’s saviour? The answer is no.

“I think he will continue to have fun, like he did this season, but don’t think he will make a massive difference in terms of what United expected to be for that type of money.”

  • McClaren opens up on exit

Steve McClaren has spoken about his joy at being appointed as Jamaica's new manager.

He said: “I am extremely proud and excited to take up the position of head coach for the Jamaica men’s national team.

“I had no hesitation in accepting a position that is ideally suited to me at this stage of my career.

“Prior to returning to Manchester United for a second spell, I spent time at FIFA as a Technical Advisor on their Global Eco Analysis project.

“Jamaica was one of the teams I worked with and I quickly came to realise the potential the country possessed.

“In the years since, that potential has grown significantly and there is every reason to believe that with continued hard work and development a bright future lies ahead.”

  • Rashford reveals lofty dreams

Marcus Rashford is refusing to give up hope of one day tasting Premier and Champions League glory with United.

The 26-year-old said: “I think as you get older, your dreams change as well,” says Rashy.

“So, you know, in the beginning, it was just about playing for Man United.

"And when you get there, it's about winning.

"So I still have, you know, dreams of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and Champions League with Man United.

"So, you know, hopefully we can get that done.”

  • Evans talks redundancies

Jonny Evans has spoken out about the redundancies hitting Manchester United which will see 250 people lose their jobs.

Veteran defender Evans, 36, says the news has hit everyone hard at the club as new part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues with his sweeping changes.

The Nothern Irishman, who met his wife Helen at the club, said: “I think they've got an idea of how they want the structure, but as someone who's been at the club a long time, you know, a lot of people have lost their jobs this last couple of weeks, it's been hard and difficult to see.

“The new owners feel that’s the direction that they want to go. But, you know, it's not been easy for everyone at the same time.

“I mean, there's people you’ve known for 20 years and I think the timing of it happened when we came away on tour pretty much.

“So we were all a bit in the dark and I'm sure everything will be sorted out, things will be a bit more clear when we get back. But it's been a difficult thing to see, people, I've known for a long, long time.

“One thing about working in a club like Man United, you're all in and everyone's always been all in, it's a massive staff.”

  • Ten Hag's head still on chopping block

Roy Keane insists Erik ten Hag's new contract won't prevent him from being given the boot if the Red Devils start the new season poorly.

“He only had one year left on his contract and they didn’t want the uncertainty going into the new season.

"The clauses will still be the same and it’s not to mean that they won’t get rid of him in October or November.

"It’s just a message to give him a backing.”

  • Apple of United's eye

Former Tranmere physio and manager Les Parry holds the position but he is set to be replaced.

Appleton worked with Ashworth at West Brom and is among his proteges.

He was given a chance to come through as a coach at the Hawthorns under his mentor and they have a very close relationship.

  • Scott to be kidding

Manchester United have knocked back a minuscule bid for midfielder Scott McTominay, it's been claimed.

The Red Devils are reportedly willing to part ways with the Scotland international if they receive a suitable offer for his services this summer.

Turkish reporter Ali Naci Kucuk claims the Super Lig big boys have submitted a £12.6million offer for the Red Devils academy graduate.

Kucuk told Raydo Gol: “Galatasaray have submitted an offer of €15m to Manchester United.

"Manchester United, on the other hand, wanted €30m.

"If Manchester United don’t get the offers they want, McTominay could go to Galatasaray for €20m.

"Let me remind you, Galatasaray signed Mauro Icardi in September."
