We sold our home to buy & build on an abandoned caravan park – we’re going to be mortgage free at 30

ANYONE who has taken out a mortgage will be dreaming of the days until they have financial freedom.

But that's not a concern for Emily and John...because they decided to sell their home to buy an abandoned caravan park so that they can be mortgage-free in their thirties.

In a clip posted to TikTok (@camp_out_west), Emily explains: "Sold our house and all our belongings to buy this abandoned, three acre caravan park for £90k.

"We spent all our money from our house sale and life savings on the land, so we could buy it debt and mortgage free.

"We only have £500 left in our bank, so will be renovating and self-building month by month, as we get paid from our day jobs.

"Let the glow up begin…"

In a second video, the happy couple then shared what their lives have looked like over the last 12 months after they made a life changing decision to sell their home and all of their belongings to buy the abandoned caravan site.

"After spending two years searching for land to buy,
we'd almost given up hope, until one day we heard about an abandoned caravan park that was for sale just 10 minutes up the road," Emily explains.

"The land used to be home to the coal miners that worked in the colliery opposite and when the mine closed back in 1989, it'd been left to become completely overgrown."

John goes on to say the couple had zero expectations when they went to view the caravan park at first, but says little did they know that this would become their future home.

"So we made the biggest decision of our lives and sold our house and all of our belongings to buy this," Emily continues.

"We were left with just £500 in the bank and looking back it seems crazy, but sometimes you just have to take the risk."

Despite having limited tools, limited knowledge and little funds left to help start renovating the land, John says this didn't hold them back because they were so excited to get to work.

Emily adds: "We moved on to the land in a 20-year-old touring caravan we bought off Facebook.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time but in reality we had no idea what we were looking for and ended up with a caravan that needed a lot of repairs and work."

John concludes: "We knew we were going to be living in the caravan for a long time, so decided to invest in fixing it up.

"At the beginning, we were worried we might regret selling our house, nut living in the caravan over the last 12 months has made us realise how little we really need to be happy."

It wasn't long before the post went viral, racking up a whopping 7.6 million views and several comments from social media users.

"Good luck with it guys, labour of love," wrote one.

A second praised: "Brave move. Best of luck!"

A third commented: "Fantastic living the best life."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "Wow, what a Project! Good Luck…"

And a further added: "Amazing - I would love to do this!"
