‘I wouldn’t be so selfish’ people hit back at ‘greedy’ shopper who cleared Aldi shelves of reduced meat

SHOPPERS have been left totally divided after a man cleared the shelves of reduced meat in Aldi.

Whilst some bargain hunters slammed him as ‘greedy’ and ‘selfish’, others admitted that they would have cleared the lot too.

Thrilled with his haul of reduced whole chickens, Ryan Holt took to social media to show other shoppers.

Posting on Yellow sticker shopping tips, tricks and hauls, a private Facebook group with 167,000 members, Ryan shared a snap of his Aldi trolley, full with seven roast chickens, amongst his other shopping.

Alongside the post, Ryan penned: “All these chickens reduced today and I got them all.”

Ryan then confirmed that the chickens had been slashed by 75% and scanned through at the till at just £1.10 each.

He then explained: “Looks like it’s chicken salad, chicken soup, chicken roast, chicken pie, chicken pasta, chicken rice [for] the rest of this week.”

It’s no surprise that Ryan, who lives in Great Yarmouth, was thrilled with his mega haul, as the seven whole chickens cost him a total of just £7.70.

But Ryan’s post, which was shared just six hours ago, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 501 likes and 347 comments.

BIG DIVIDE

Shoppers were left totally divided by Ryan’s mega haul and many took to the comments to express their thoughts.

Whilst many thought it was 'selfish' to buy so many, others thought that supermarkets should ration particular foods in these situations.

One person said: “One word only, "GREEDY" comes to mind.

"Think of others, you could have taken three at most.”

Another added: “That's just plain selfish buying the lot.”

It's really selfish to grab all the chickens like that

A third commented: “Greedy, I never take that much.”

Whilst someone else chimed in: “I agree it's really selfish to grab all the chickens like that too.

"However I think supermarkets have a really important part in this equation. They should ration particular foods per family household.”

When's the best time to shop at Aldi?

WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy.

For reduced items - when shops open

Red sticker items are rare at Aldi's 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says that none of its food goes to waste so there are some to be found - if you're quick.

A spokesman for the supermarket said: "All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates."

That means you have the best chance of finding reduced food items if you go into stores as soon as it opens.

Opening times vary by shop but a majority open from 7am or 8am. You can find your nearest store's times by using the supermarket's online shop finder tool.

For Specialbuys - Thursdays and Sundays

Specialbuys are Aldi's weekly collection of items that it doesn't normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools.

New stock comes into stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally, these are the best days to visit for the best one-off special deals.

For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head there for your local store's opening time.

You don't have to head into stores to bag a Specialbuy, though.

They also go on sale online, usually at midnight on Thursday and Sunday, and you can pre-order them up to a week in advance.

As long as you spend at least £25, you'll get the items delivered for free.

Remember: once they're gone, they're gone, so if there's something you really want, visit as early as possible

However, at the same time, others were impressed by Ryan’s purchases and were eager to praise his cheap finds.

One shopper wrote: “Wow, so lucky!”

I’d have done the same, if I could store them all

A second chimed in: “I would have taken all of them at that price too!!! Would other people leave some for others? No they wouldn’t.. so ur right in ur mind to take what u want! ENJOY.”

Someone else expressed: “Well done mate! I’d have done the same, if I could store them all.”

Meanwhile, another bargain hunter penned: “Brilliant, well done!
