Hundreds of thousands have now seen the fight online, with people calling for Tesco to take action against the staff member.

It shows a heated exchange where a mature Tesco employee in a blue Teso vest repeatedly directs a plain clothes store detective to call the police.

The exchange appears to have happened following the store's checkout, where the customer, who is not seen on the video, has been stopped to check her receipt against what is in her shopping trolley.

The customer begins recording, clearly frustrated that she has been pulled aside to be checked.

"If I've paid for my items at the till and you've chased me down saying I haven't paid to tell me I haven't paid for certain things, I've paid for everything on here," she said.

Once the Tesco employee realises the customer is recording, she asks her to stop.

"Yeah, I'm recording, yeah I'm recording, you've chased me down the aisle after I've paid for my shopping."

"Stop recording," says the employee.

"No I won't stop recording," says the shopper.

"Can you call the police," the employee directs the detective to do.

The pair then get into an argument over whether the customer is allowed to record and whether the employee chased the customer down.

As the employee directs the detective to call the police again, she walks around the trolley to the customer and grabs at the phone.

A small tussle ensues before the customer appears to push the employee away from her.

They then argue over whether the customer has the right to record in the store.

"I will point at you if you just tried taking my phone out of my hand you silly cow," the customer says.

The Sun put questions to Tesco specifically asking whether the customer was allowed to record and what it thought of what the video showed.

Tesco is investigating the incident.

According to the internet law centre, filming an individual where they are expecting their experience to remain private, such as private property, could be unlawful.

Commenters online were shocked at what they saw.

"I would not know how to react if she grabbed my phone like that," said one commenter.

"Between the unnamed out of uniform security guard throwing her items around , squashing rolls etc and her trying to grab the phone they handed this situation so horribly my god," said another.

"Check for a receipt and move on. No need to dig through her cart. I’d be annoyed too," said a third.
