I went to work in a pleather skirt and it split open minutes before a meeting, you could see everything, it was awkward
A STYLE-SAVVY woman was left mortified when she suffered a major wardrobe malfunction just moments before a work meeting.
She desperately tried to make her outfit look presentable as the fashion failure threatened to expose her body to colleagues.
Shalinda Kirby (@shalindakirby) has garnered almost 12,000 followers on TikTok, where she gives a glimpse into her life in Canada.
The rock radio host took to the social media platform to reveal how she narrowly avoided flashing everyone in the studio.
Initially, nothing seemed out of the ordinary as she spoke while wearing a plaid print top, pleather skirt, and a beanie hat.
“I’m having a wardrobe malfunction this morning my God,” she chuckled to herself.
“I came to work wearing a pleather skirt okay, and the zipper…
“You know how zippers like separate on a coat or something," she said while motioning a split with her hands.
"Yeah, that’s what happened to my skirt. So check this out."
Shalinda held the side of her skirt together to show that the zipper had come apart and risked exposing her underwear.
When she took her hands from the material there was a large gap although she had clipped the waist with a safety pin.
“Yeah see it was like this,” she said trying to hold the material together.
“And now it’s like this being held together with a safety pin. It’s just a whole ordeal.”
Shalinda revealed she was trying to think of a way to hide the glaring gap where the material should’ve been zipped together.
“I have found a jacket to wrap around my waist to hide it a little bit because I have a meeting to go to in my workplace and this is awkward,” she said.
The fashionista looked in good spirits despite the frustrating situation with her outfit.
She captioned the post, writing: “Shoutout to safety pins.”
Shalinda included the hashtags #wardrobemalfunction, #safetypin, and #zippermalfunction which helped the video reach over 25,000 views.
Hundreds of people liked the post and took to the comment section in hysterics over the fashion failure.
“Pro tip, always keep a change of clothes in your office,” one person wrote.
“Try duct tape [laughing] duct tape fixes everything, hopefully, the rest of your day is better!!!” another said.
“Staple it [laughing],” a third chimed in. “I hate when that happens!” a fourth commented.
“Another good reason to go home after work and have a beverage or three,” another added.
The wardrobe woe comes after another TikToker was left embarrassed by her choice of clothing.
Frankie Torres (@frankienstein3) took to the social media platform wearing a baggy T-shirt and flared pants covered in smiley faces.
“When you see it [upside down smiley emoji],” read the text over her video.
The trendsetter said her pants were “f**king adorable” but that she couldn’t wear them because of the design.
There was noticeable beige ink from a smiley face that had been cut off in the crotch area.

The awkwardly placed smiley created the illusion that Frankie had a visible cameltoe outline in the pants.
“I don’t know what to do,” she confessed.
