A TikTok user known as theskincarediarist (@theskincarediarist) is "unapologetically obsessed" with skincare.

She shared in a video how she's planning on looking younger without filler, or neuromodulators, in 2024.

"I think we should take a Botox break in 2024, and my prediction is a lot of us are going to look younger," she said.

"Think about when somebody gets a cast removed, and that limb is much smaller because of muscle atrophy. Well, it is the same thing on your face," she explained.

"When you are repeatedly using Botox for years on end, those muscles atrophy."

She wrote in the video caption that in our quest to smooth facial wrinkles, we may actually end up looking older because of sagging from muscle atrophy.

This could lead to thinning skin or discoloration, which are all potential unintended consequences of prolonged neuromodulator use.

She used two common injection places as prime examples, Masseter, or jaw, Botox, and a forehead Botox.

When it comes to masseter botox when this muscle starts to atrophy and become smaller, you may see "jowling" in the front" of your mouth because you've lost this muscle support.

"Additionally, on your forehead, this muscle starts to shrink and gets weaker, and then you will see droopier eyebrows and eyelids as a result," she said.

Except for her chin, she said that she is taking a long break from all the muscle-freezing injections and waiting to see if the Botox break produces a more "youthful face."

"I'm curious to know what I looked like with my muscles fully formed because it's been 10 years of continual Botox," she said.

There were conflicting opinions in the comment section about her statement.

"A renowned French plastic surgeon said two times a year should be the maximum. You need to let your muscles build back up," a viewer commented.

Oh, I tried this due to budget one year...I can confirm: I did NOT look younger," another added.

"My derm is introducing more laser facials and encouraging less tox as well. Many new lasers can tighten/reduce wrinkles with longer results and less money," another agreed.

"Yes! I am currently taking a break, and I’m shocked I actually feel like it looks so much better! Especially my eyes!" a woman said.
