3 injured in Hong Kong as 3-vehicle pile-up leads to tunnel closure
Three people have been injured after a Hong Kong taxi slammed into another cab, temporarily shutting down a traffic tunnel on Monday morning.
Police said that around 8.50am, a cement mixer truck driven by a 31-year-old man and a taxi driven by another 31-year-old man were driving along the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel when they had to slow down to a halt due to traffic conditions.
A second taxi, driven by a 28-year old man carrying a 31-year old female passenger, failed to stop and slammed into the back of the first taxi.
Pictures from the scene show the first taxi sandwiched between the two other vehicles, with most of its front end crushed under the back of the cement mixer. Ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles were deployed to the scene, images showed.
Police said the two taxi drivers and the female passengers all sustained injuries and were taken to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong.
The accident had earlier forced the closure of the Kwun Tong-bound slow lane of the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel, but it later reopened around 10.05am, according to the Transport Department.
