Madame Sweat then instructed viewers to take a lemon or an orange before cutting them in quarters with the skin still on.
“Put it in the boiling water,” she said.
For those who don’t have a citrus fruit to add to the mixture, she had a solution: white vinegar.
“All you have to do is half a cup of white vinegar with one cup of boiling water,” she said. “And it’ll take away the odour.
“It just won’t leave the fragrance that you get from the citrus fruit.”
In the caption TikTok user @madamesweat added: “Here’s my tip on how to avoid lingering cooking smells in your home”.
People were quick to comment as one person asked: “how long should the water boil?”
She replied: “Until you notice the food smell has dissipated,” followed by a black heart emoji.
Another shared: “I am about to do that my house smells like shrimp”.
“My mom used to do this when making Indian food and it works,” a third revealed, to which she responded: “That’s great,” followed by a clapping hands emoji.
And a fourth added: “Going to have to try this when my husband likes to make bacon. I can’t stand the lingering smell that last all day.”
