When are the bin collection dates over the Christmas Holidays?

People are being warned of changes to rubbish and recycling collections across the UK over the Christmas holidays.

The festive break will mean areas will see a change in the normal day their household waste and recycling is picked up.

Christmas Day (Monday December 25) falls on a weekday and Boxing Day is on Tuesday, December 26.

For most areas in the UK, no collection will take place on these two days.

This can differ between councils, as some will have different approaches.

However, it is always best to check for your address on your council’s website to confirm the dates for refuse collection.

For example, there will be no bin collections in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council during bank holidays.

Wandsworth Council has advised residents: “Your rubbish and recycling will be collected as normal on all bank holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

"When these fall on a weekday, collections will be one day later than usual for the rest of that week."

Southwark Council and Tower Hamlets Council have said best to check their websites.

Harrow has listed its dates here.

When will my bin collection resume?

This depends on your local council and what they have decided.

Most collections will take place a day later due to the bank holiday.

As previously mentioned, councils who aren't collecting over the Christmas Holiday will push their days back or forward by 24 hours to accommodate this.

If your collection day is usually a Monday, your waste and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, December 25 is moving to December 23 or December 27.

Remember to put your sacks and garden waste out by 7m on your collection day.

You can also recycle your Christmas tree in a quick, easy and environmentally friendly way, by leaving it out as part of your kerbside rubbish and recycling collections.
