BBC Breakfast in huge schedule AND presenter shakeup as it’s taken off BBC One

BBC Breakfast has been hit by a major telly schedule shake-up as part of the Corporation's Olympics coverage.

The daily news programme has switched onto BBC Two from BBC One to make room for the sport in Paris.

In addition, today's show finished early at 8am and saw Ben Thompson in the hotseat instead of Jon Kay.

Some viewers aren't happy with the changes.

One person wrote on X today: "So #BBCBreakfast moves across to BBC2, because 17 hours of Olympics are now on BBC1, and immediately repeats all yesterday's Olympic news they've already covered, ad nauseum, since 6am!

"Perhaps those that need this will still be on BBC1? Give us an alternative to sport, please!"

Another complained: "bbcbreakfast 7 mins of Limp-pix after we turnover to BBC2 ….. [sad emoji]."

Typically, BBC Breakfast airs each morning on BBC One from 6am to 9.30am.

To make space in the schedule, multiple episodes will have their runtime cut down.

Tomorrow and Wednesday's shows are the worst affected with their running times slashed down to just 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, the bumper salaries of the Breakfast team were revealed last week in the BBC's annual report.

Kay is the second highest earner on the team, with £225,000 - £229,999, and Sally Nugent - who co-hosts with him every Monday to Wednesday, received £195,000 - £199,999.

Naga Munchetty has the biggest pay packet, taking home between £345,000 and £349,999.

Breakfast isn't the only show that's been affected by the Olympics.

EastEnders will be dropped from its regular 7:30pm slot as a result of the Olympics coverage this week, too.

Action in Paris has taken precedent over the TV schedules leading the flagship soap to be booted from its usual slot.

Instead, Enders will air on sister channel BBC Two and episodes will continue dropping early on BBC iPlayer.
