The disturbing speech of the former president

Regarding Aaron Blake’s Nov. 20 The Fix column, “Trump’s words on immigrants latest in long, ugly list”:

Two questions should be asked of presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump, who said undocumented immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country.” In fact, every politician should be asked.

Who are the farmworkers tending America’s fields and then harvesting the fruits and vegetables that Americans eat every day?

American Farm Bureau Federation literature states that “50-70 percent of farm laborers in the country today are unauthorized since few U.S. workers are willing to fill available farm labor jobs.” So, should Americans be worried about these undocumented farmworkers “poisoning” our food supply chain, too?

One poison Mr. Trump and his sycophants would never swallow is their children working 12-hour days in the blazing hot sun, hand-picking peaches, table grapes, lettuce, peppers, etc.

The verbiage from our former president has reached the point at which Americans don’t even flinch when he releases another barrage of hate and vitriol. Here are two words for our fellow Americans: Wake up! Don’t people realize that everything our military has fought and died for over the past 240 years — to preserve democracy, mandate civil rights and keep the United States free — is now in jeopardy?

In less than a year, Americans will vote for our next president, and it’s possible it might not be Joe Biden. Recent polls report that the majority of Americans don’t want Mr. Biden or former president Donald Trump, but they appear to be our only choices — and Mr. Trump leads or is tied with Mr. Biden in most polls, despite Mr. Trump’s increasing threats of a future autocracy. It’s important to note that there are other candidates running on both sides, but the news media is pushing the American public toward a two-candidate faceoff between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump.

For all its faults, the United States is and always has been the greatest country in the world, but unless the American public comes to its senses and starts supporting someone other than Mr. Trump and his MAGA politics, the United States will cease to exist in all but name in January 2025.
