Proud Mark Wright backs wife Michelle Keegan after she’s tipped as new Bond girl saying ‘why not – she’s good’
MARK Wright is backing wife Michelle Keegan to be the next Bond girl after her acclaimed Netflix role put her in the frame.
The actress has been universally praised for her performance as widowed military vet Maya Stern in thriller Fool Me Once.
Such was the fan fare as the series topped the Netflix charts on both sides of the Atlantic that bookies have her among the favourites to join the 007 franchise.
And her husband is adamant she's more than capable of taking on the iconic role.
Speaking on his Heart radio show, he said: "She’s such a down to earth girl, never forgotten her roots, that is why when she sits there and reads news, that she is in the running to be the next Bond Girl, she’s like 'nah, no chance, I’m not having it!' but then when you think about it, why not!
"They’ve put her in the mix with Jodie Comer, also could be running, and in the past we’ve had Rosamund Pike, Monica Bellucci, Halle Berry, just imagine if Michelle is the next Bond girl!"

Mark gushed about his wife's humility and joked there could be fireworks at home if she pips him to a part in the famous spy series.
He continued: "I don’t know if you get like this at work, you do something really good but you don’t realise that and you're just modest and that’s what’s so good about the fact that she is like that, humble. And I absolutely love that, imagine that, being Bond girl, that is my dream shattered, of being the next Bond himself.
"If she was the Bond girl it would be totally weird if I was Bond, maybe I’ll fight her for it."
Listeners shared Mark's belief in Michelle's ability.
One commented: "I thinks she totally could be and one id actually watch especially if she kept her northern accent
"She’d be absolutely amazing as a Bond Girl."
"Love this she’s amazing!"
The former Corrie star is being backed by punters as bookmaker Coral makes Michelle odds-on at 4-5.
A spokesperson for the betting website said: “After the success of Fool Me Once, punters are backing Michelle Keegan to be the female lead in the next James Bond film.
"The former Corrie actress tops the betting ahead of Jodie Comer and Margot Robbie for the role."
Fool Me Once tells the story of grieving Maya who is coming to terms with the loss of her husband Joe.
Her other half was brutally murdered in an apparent park mugging, however, Maya is left stunned when he appears on her baby monitor in their house, seemingly back from the dead.
Meanwhile, Michelle's BBC One drama Million Pound Poms has officially been green lit for a second series.
Reprising their roles alongside Michelle are Games of Thrones's Faye Marsay, and Luther star Warren Brown.
