Emmerdale stars pay touching tribute to Steve Halliwell as Zak Dingle actor dies aged 77

EMMERDALE stars have led tributes to Steve Halliwell following news of the actor's death aged 77.

The soap star played the role of the iconic Zak Dingle in the ITV show for 29 years.

Recently the star has been missing from Emmerdale - and now his family have announced his sad passing.

Tributes from his heartbroken colleagues have started to pour in, with the official social media account breaking the news.

Writing on X, it said: "It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Emmerdale can confirm that Steve Halliwell, our beloved Zak Dingle, has peacefully passed away."

Lisa Riley took to her official Instagram account to pay tribute to the stalwart, writing: "My dearest Steve….love you so much 💛💛you are now finally at peace. Thank you for years of laughter, you were still laughing right up to the end.

"Adored, loved,respected by us all, a LEGEND in my eyes that’s for sure-we have stories and memories to last for many more years to come. Sleep well Stevie-our prayers of strength go to Charlotte, Val and Angelina at this really difficult time…our extended family."

Reacting to the news, Kelvin Fletcher - who played Andy Sugden in the soap, said: "What a man and what a legacy. So many incredible memories. We had some fun. God Bless."

Michelle Hardwick, who stars as Vanessa the vet, said: "A wonderful man, will be greatly missed. Thinking of his family at this sad time, rest in peace Steve."
