Chelsea vs Leeds betting preview

The ‘blue billion-pound bottle jobs’ tag seems to have gone down well with the footballing world outside Stamford Bridge. It won’t have gone unnoticed by Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino and his players, though, and it could serve as an inspiration for them in their FA Cup clash with Championship high-flyers Leeds United.

Chelsea seemed to have turned the corner in recent weeks. An impressive FA Cup 4th Round replay win at Aston Villa was followed by a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace and 1-1 draw away to Manchester City at the Etihad. Okay, the Blues rode their luck at City. But they also could have been 2-0 up, had they taken one of their many chances when 1-0 in front.

In fairness to Chelsea, they could also have won the Carabao Cup if they were more clinical in front of goal. But as the match against Manchester City highlighted, the billion-pound Blues aren’t great at putting away their chances. It’s an area of weakness that has cost Pochettino’s team all season.

Can Leeds United exploit this? Not only is Chelsea not great in front of goal, but they also looked out on their collective feet in extra-time on Sunday. Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell were two prime examples.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke will have noted this. But this will be his own team's seventh game this month alone. And with the Championship such an unforgiving league, it’s understandable that teams may be running on empty.

In fairness, it’s hard to see any evidence of fatigue with Leeds at the moment. In the Championship, they have won their last nine. This includes a 3-1 win over Leicester City last Friday. And in all competitions, the Whites have won eleven and drawn one of their last 12.

But as much as Leeds would love to keep their FA Cup run going, their priority is surely to get back in the Premier League. Chelsea will also need to show some fight after all the flak they’ve taken since Sunday. A home win looks like the most likely result.

Archie Gray to be shown a card (Spreadex)

The 17-year-old right-sided defender doesn’t have a track record of getting booked in the Championship. But he will not have come up against anybody quite like Raheem Sterling in the second tier.

His youthful inexperience could see him get caught out against an experienced speedster like Sterling. And at 23/5, he looks worth a bet to pick up a card.

Conor Gallagher to have one+ shot on target (bet365)

Conor Gallagher has been playing a far more advanced role for Chelsea in recent weeks. His move forward resulted in two goals against Crystal Palace earlier in the month, and it should also have seen him net against Liverpool on Sunday.

With Chelsea likely to have more of the ball at home to a Championship team, Gallagher looks like a good call to have at least one shot hit the target.

Back Conor Gallagher to have one or more shots on target at 4/6 with bet365

Enzo Fernandez to score anytime (Sky Bet)

World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez hasn’t done a great deal since joining Chelsea. But one thing he has done is take a liking to the FA Cup.

So far, he has scored in both rounds. He fired in an excellent free kick in the win over Aston Villa, which followed his tap-in against Preston in the opening round. He is 11/1 to score from outside the box. But we’re going to play safe and back him to score anytime at 4/1.
