Everton v Sunderland, Wolves v Shrewsbury, and more: FA Cup third round – live

Key events

Wolves do get their fifth as Rodrigo Gomes pounces on a shot after it comes back off the post. At least it’s not a long journey for the Shrews fans.

Wolves 4-1 Shrewsbury

Tolu Arokodare has just missed a huge chance to make this 5-1, it looked like a simple tap-in at the back post as the ball was fizzed across the six-yard box, but he fails to connect. The Nigerian has struggled to make an impact since his summer arrival and that won’t help his confidence. Five plus change to go at Molineux.

Everton 0-1 Sunderland

Eliezer Mayenda has just hit the post for Sunderland as they chase a second against Everton. There are 20 minutes for David Moyes’s side to find an equaliser in their special dark blue FA Cup kit.

Wow! Nothing pretty about that but what a moment for Isaac Buckley-Ricketts. The Macclesfield forward dangles a leg at unconvincing shot after a bit of a scramble in the box and the National League North side lead 2-0 against the holders. Half an hour to go for one of the biggest cup shocks in history.

Quick score update from that games kicked-off at 12.15pm:
Cheltenham 0-2 Leicester
Everton 0-1 Sunderland
Macclesfield 1-0 Crystal Palace
Wolves 4-1 Shrewsbury

The last FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough was played in 1997, a replay between Middlesbrough and Chesterfield after they drew 3-3 at Old Trafford. Replays and neutral games at anywhere other Wembley are now a thing of the past, as, sadly, are Sheffield Wednesday as a force in English football. With new ownership the truly dark times are hopefully behind this grand old club but they are still on the bottom end of the dip.

Brentford actually made it to Wembley in 1997, where they lost the Division Two playoff final to Crewe Alexandra. How times have changed. Brentford are expected to sweep past the Championship basement dwellers today.

There are eight FA Cup third round fixtures this afternoon and I’ll be keeping an eye on everything from Boreham Wood v Burton to Manchester City v Exeter.

Before then we have a number of early fixtures that are nearing their conclusion, I’ll bring you updates from those and team news from the 3pm kick-offs as soon as I get it.
